My Name is Gwen

And I really love my little sister.

Happy Birthday Dave

Since you are turning one year older, I thought I’d show a video from two years ago. That way you won’t feel so old.

Happy Birthday and big nubs.

J’aime This Commercial

I thought that this was the best commercial during the Super Bowl.

I cry almost every time I watch it.

One of the Silliest Girls in all of Happy Valley

Gwen makes me laugh on a daily basis.  She also makes me crazy with her lack of interest in being potty trained, but that’s a whole other post. The funny thing about Gwen, is that she actually knows that she is making us laugh and therefore, hams it up.  I think she got this from my brother, James, who used to do the same thing.  And because I love my little brother so much, it makes me love this about Gwen even more!

So, yesterday she came running into the living room, rather enthusiastically, to show Dave and I the picture she had just drawn. According to Gwen, this is a picture of her when she’s scared of the dark.

I think that her depiction is funny in and of itself, but the weird thing about it is that she actually makes that same expression.

A story about Holly, on her birthday

Today is Holly’s birthday and to celebrate the day, I’m going to share one of my earliest memories of her. But first, let me warn you that this is a cheesy post. It’s a super cheesy post. If you are cheese intolerant, then you need to stop reading this now.

Ok. It was 1999ish and Holly and I attended the same BYU student ward. I had seen her around here and there, but we hadn’t formally met. One fast and testimony meeting, she got up and bore her testimony. I was in the congregation. I remember she was dressed in black. She got up and just… completely blew me away.

The way she looked, the way she talked, her strength, her emotion (this one, like all of Holly’s testimonies, included a few tears), her presence. She was stunning. I was hooked.

How do you not love this woman?

How do you not love this woman?

I can’t recall the specifics of her testimony (thanks a lot, faulty brain), but I do remember sitting there, with wide eyes and a slightly open mouth, thinking, “Wow.”

Ten years, three kids, and a hundred thousand joy-filled moments later, she still wows me every day.

I love you, Holly. Happy birthday.

What’s your earliest/favorite/best/etc. memory of Holly? Cheese-intolerants, you can come back now.

The Winner, a Video, and a Craft Tutorial

Thanks for all your entries.  After assigning everyone and their extra entries a number, I used to pick someone.  Random picked…

LIZ! – who wrote “Do I even need to say who would be wearing this at our house? Okay, I am going to try to link it to FB as well.”

So email me within 24 hours, Liz, or you lose! hollylesue[at]gmail[dot]com

Sorry to those who didn’t win.  I always feel bad when it comes time to pick someone for my giveaways because I want everyone to win.  One of these days when I have more time (probably when I am able to clone myself so I can properly take care of my children and always have a clean house and sew/craft/create to my heart’s desire) I’ll have a tutorial on the tutus.  They really are quite easy and require minimal sewing.  And even then, the sewing is in a straight line.  Anyone can make these tutus, trust me.

In the spirit of Valentines Day, I put together this little video of my valentines. Enjoy.

Also, here’s a quick little craft that I got from The Idea Room which has great ideas (duh) and easy crafts. Ours turned out a little different than hers, but I think I like our version better.

Start with some card stock, paint, a paintbrush and a paper plate (or anything else you want that will hold the paint)

Paint your child’s hand with one color. They will love this step, well at least my girls did.

We practiced a little first.

After one hand dries, do the other hand with a different color.

After it dries, write a message around the hand prints, which not only solidifies the heart shape, but will make the grandparents (or parents) happy recipients.

I also cut ours down with some decorative scissors, but forgot to take a picture of them before they got stuck in a package and sent to our missionaries in Hong Kong.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day, A Birthday, and A Giveaway

Tutu Giveaway is now closed.

Can you believe that Valentine’s Day is this weekend? I think the best thing about Valentine’s Day (yes, even better than home made sugar cookies) is that my birthday is the VERY NEXT DAY. And this year, I want to do the giving.  Well, at least some of the giving.  I’m still totally open to receiving.  I mean, it is my birthday after all.

So who wants to win one of my little girl tutus?

That’s right peeps. I’m giving away one of my little girl tutus. This one though, is actually a new one—all red with a few pink pieces distributed throughout. You will be getting the one in these very pictures that Gwen is modeling.

Do you have any big plans for Valentine’s Day? Our plans consist of going to church and having dinner with my in-laws. So romantic! Nothing against my in-laws, they are great people, it’s just not gonna be a romantic dinner for Dave and me.

And actually, that’s okay with me. Not because I don’t want to have a romantic dinner with Dave. I just think Valentine’s Day should be about showing or expressing the love we have for our loved ones.

So let’s see some love here, people. If you want to win this tutu for your little girl, or a little girl that you love, leave me a comment and tell me who you want to win it for.*

Here are The Rules:
1. * A comment on my blog will earn you one entry.
2. If you blog about this and link back to this post, you can get TWO, that’s right TWO, extra entries.
3. If you link to my blog on Facebook, you can get another TWO entries!
4. If we aren’t FB friends, you need to tell me you linked to me. And please, let’s be honest here. You can email me at hollylesue[at]gmail[dot]com
5. This giveaway is short. It will be ending tomorrow, Thursday, February 11 at 9pm MST.
6. I will announce the winner Friday morning at 9am MST. If you are the winner, you will only have 24 hours to email me and claim your prize, or it will go to someone else.
7. There are still a few tutus in my Etsy Shop in case you want a different one, or unfortunately, don’t win.

That means you can earn a total of FIVE entries! So make sure you enter, tu-tu-today, junior!**

**Bonus point for anyone who can tell me what movie that’s from. And no, bonus points are not extra entries, but just a bonus point for you, with me, because I will think you are cool if you know what I’m quoting.  Consider it a “friend point” which is far more valuable than any tutu I could ever make.

12 weeks

Ever since she was born, I’ve called her “Little Face” when talking to her.

That little face and those serious eyes looking back at me, makes me smile and brings happiness to my soul.

I love this girl.
