4th Of July, 2010

This year we decided to go to Provo’s balloon launch. Saturday morning we woke up bright and early (some of us not so bright) and headed over to the field. Unfortunately, the conditions weren’t ideal and even though quite a few of the balloons got to the point of being inflated, they didn’t take off—only three out of the supposed 25. It was fun, nonetheless, and even a little entertaining. There was a big Coke bottle balloon and when it started to sway in the wind, the whole crowd (as if they had been cued) “oooh-ed” and “aaah-ed.” This event will definitely become one of our traditions as long as we are living here.

It was really cool to see the balloons go from being flat on the ground to floating in the sky. But I have to admit, I don’t think I ever want to actually take a ride in one.

This is one of the three that got off the ground. Everyone cheered when it did.

Inez was a little nervous, especially when we were standing close to the pig and the wind started to pick up…

…I think she was ready to bolt at this point, and this was after we had moved from where we were previously standing.

The Coke bottle was a really cool balloon.

It really was too bad that it never got off the ground.

Enjoying the view.

This one makes us think “moon landing!” (If you watch Modern Family, you might get that)

Cutest little leggies

Monday we hit the 4th of July parade in Provo. Besides being right in a very sunny spot, the girls really enjoyed it.

We thought this one looked pretty funny, like the pig was made out of sausages.

Overall, it was a fun 4th of July. We are certainly grateful for our country and all the people who have sacrificed to make it great.
