A Determined Toddler

It’s probably safe to say that chocolate is one of Olive’s main food groups. The few times I have chocolate out in plain site, Olive is the first one to see it. She wouldn’t miss it. She gets a chair from the table, pushes it to where she needs to go, and reeeeeeeeeeeeeeaches until she gets what she wants.

I have to give credit to Ashley Ann Campbell from the blog Under The Sycamore here. Awhile back she took pictures of her daughter reaching for something and shot at this same angle, capturing her legs and feet. I don’t think I ever would have considered shooting from that angle before seeing the amazing pictures that Ashley took of her daughter. She is an amazing photographer, and I’m nowhere near her talent.

But I’m so grateful for others who share ideas and talents because I will always treasure these pictures of Olive, those little legs in her Christmas leggings, and her cute feet that communicate just how bad she wants that chocolate.

All I Want For Christmas…

Christmastime is Here

My hope is that when you read that title, you will actually sing that Charlie Brown song, high notes and all.

So, It’s December 9th and we haven’t even ordered our Christmas cards. I’m really sad about it. We had/have this great idea that we were going to do for our cards this year, but SOMEONE kind of ruins it because she can’t stand up in pictures yet. Whatever. Babies. So we are going to have to save the rad idea until next year. Be excited. Be very excited for one whole year.

In the meantime, we (meaning Dave) have worked on part of our card, but haven’t had time to finish it yet. In his defense he has been rather busy. He had to pull an all-nighter last Friday because he was exporting files all night for an online class he’ll start teaching in January. Do you know what an all-nighter does to people our age? Let’s face it, we can’t pull that off anymore. Mainly due to the children that occupy our home and need constant care and attention. Whatever. Babies. My point is that Dave isn’t the one to blame for non-existent Christmas cards. YET.

ANYWAY, my hope is that the cards will be done and ordered this weekend, so that they can be mailed next week. If you are one of the lucky few who get our Christmas cards, be excited. Be very excited. But not as excited as you should be for next year. If you aren’t one of the lucky ones to get our cards, shoot me an email. After some consideration I may let you in the cool club and send you a card this year. We’ll see.

This is probably the sassiest blog post I have ever written! I think I’m a little hyped up on sugar. You should SEE how fast my fingers are moving right now! It’s actually freaking me out a little bit. And now that I think about it, it’s probably because I’ve only had pretzels and chocolate chips to eat today, and it’s 2:48 in the afternoon. I now realize this is not a good thing. But that’s what happens when your babies have croup.

Oh, did I not tell you that? Yep, the babies (plural) have croup. Is it “the croup” or just “croup?” I feel like I need to consult Diana Barry and Anne Shirley on this one. I trust them much more than Google and Wikipedia. PUT TOGETHER.

Wow, this blog post is just getting crazier. If Dave were home he would have stopped my typing a long time ago and fed me milk and honey to calm the crazy. What!? Did I just say “feed me milk and honey” like it’s some normal thing people eat outside of the bible? Cause I’m pretty sure it isn’t. Or maybe it is. I don’t know anything anymore.

I’m pretty sure people have stopped reading at this point. I know I would have. I bet my mom is still reading though. Hi Mom! And Dave. He’s probably reading too, but only because he’s feeling very concerned about his wife all of a sudden. And he’s probably done some grammer checking for me. That’s one of the perks to marrying an English major. Thanks babe!

I think I’ll just post the pictures of Clara that I was planning on writing about in the first place. Then we can all leave this post feeling happy and NOT CONCERNED ABOUT HOLLY AT ALL.

Plus I think there’s a baby seal in my house because I keep hearing one over the baby moniter. Oh wait, that’s just one of the babies that has croup/the croup.

The baby that is already bored with this blog post.

How To Properly Eat a Hershey’s Kiss

(In case you didn’t know.)

This is according to Olive.

Two-year olds are experts at these types of things.

Not pictured here: a very chocolatey dress.

Now you can go to your holiday functions and eat kisses the proper way. You’re welcome.

So, Do You Want To Come Over To My House and Make Stuff? (For Reals.)

*UPDATE*
Registration is now closed. Thanks to all who have attended and are going to attend! I appreciate your support so much!

Well ladies, THIS IS IT. I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time. I’m going to host a craft night (well, four craft nights actually) and I’m really excited about it! I have some pret-ty rad Christmas crafts for you to make. If you live in or near Utah Valley, YOU are invited. Well technically, everyone who is reading this is invited. Maybe it’s a good time for a trip to Utah, eh? Heather, Melissa, Natalie, Beth…I’m looking in your direction.

There will be (at least) five projects to make, which you should be able to finish THAT night.

1.  Vintage, glittery, Christmas trees in one of three colors

mint green

vintage white

pink

Felt balls (the most time consuming, but one of my most favorite crafts)

felt ball garland

Gift adornments/ornaments

This picture is from my phone, sorry for the bad quality!

pom-poms

stitched felt christmas trees in various colors

Gift tags or ornaments? How about a gift tag turned into an ornament? Boom! Best craft ever.

Various glittered items

glitter pine cones

And I might just throw another project in just for kicks…you will just have to come and see. So come over!  Before your life gets too hectic with the holidays, get away for one evening, have a GNO, and come be creative.  Do something for yourself!

The dates are:

  • Tuesday, November 22
  • Tuesday, November 29
  • Wednesday, November 30
  • Thursday, December 1

Each class will be held from 6:30-9:30.  The location is in Provo (directions will be emailed to you after registration).  Class is $35 per person (this covers all your supplies too). Class size is limited to 15 per class. Please specify what color trees you want to make in your notes in Paypal or email me at hollylesue[at]gmail[dot]com.

I hope to see and/or meet you!

Clara. As dreamy as a dreamsicle.

I am so in love with these pictures.

I think they turned out well because Clara is my only cooperative model these days.

She doesn’t give me attitude like certain five & seven year olds.

Nor is she like a particular (almost) two-year-old who WILL NOT sit still for a picture.

Plus these just capture her happy attitude that I’m hoping and praying is a permanent part of her personality.

Mostly, I think I’m so in love with these pictures because even if she does wake me up at 4:30 in the morning…

…I’m so in love with this little girl.

Same cake mix, different colors. The one on the left is not very enticing.

Gwen hopped into the front seat while we were waiting for Inez one day, and she (of course) had on her favorite earmuffs. She reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite but instead of snow boots, she is always sporting her earmuffs.

Someone is very close to crawling.

And Clara scooted and pulled herself over to the girl’s playhouse. I caught her under the “grass” and she reminded me of the Wicked Witch of the East.

Olive’s self portrait.

I’ve been trying to organize my corner. It’s nice to finally have all my thread in an order and in one spot.

I need to find a good way to organize all my fabric…

…especially since I have so much of it.

I’m getting closer to getting my Halloween zig zag quilt top finished. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will be completely finished until next Halloween.

A little tantrum by our little almost-two-year-old.

And that brings another Instagram week to a close.

Welp, she’s up on all fours and there is some serious rocking going on around these parts. She will be crawling before we know it.

Last week we attended the last Rooftop Concert Series with my sister & her husband. We were there for The Lower Lights. We didn’t stay long. It was COLD. We went out for dessert instead.

We harvested our pumpkins and gourds. It was a pretty good harvest considering the fact that the plants were almost overtaken by squash bugs early in the season, and seriously neglected by me for much of the season.

These gourds in particular took off! They look weird. Like dead birds or something.

Here’s our seven-going-on-seventeen-year old. I’ve realized that I need to take more pictures of her.

This was a pretty funny scene when I came across it. Doesn’t it look like the big horse has caught all the little pet shops doing something they shouldn’t be?

After some cold and rainy weather, the skies cleared and Timp had snow on it! I really do love living here.

Walking home after picking up Gwen from preschool, we stopped to see the ponies and llama. Does anyone else remember the Sesame Street video of the girl taking her llama to the dentist? I have two comments about this video. 1) How do they get a llama to be still for teeth cleaning? And 2) the girl singing is really passionate about the song.

Back at it. So far, I’ve lost 17 pounds, and I’ve got a lot more to go.

Miss Clara asleep in the bumbo. Did you know that rice cereal has tryptophan in it? It doesn’t.

Gwen was very spoiled by her Aunt Heather and Uncle Graigg, a.k.a. “Uncle Grace” for her birthday. This hat was a big hit.

I’ve never let any of my babies chew on books before. This picture is proof that the fourth child gets away with a lot more than the other ones did.

Gwen LOVES to help me bake. On this day as I was quickly stirring the dough she said, “Wow! I wish I could do crazy dramatics like that!” I just love the things she comes up with.

Clara helped make the cookies simply by cheering us on with her cute smile and fuzzy hair.

Olive was the official taste tester.

She approved.

I started this Halloween zig zag quilt last year but didn’t get very far. I’m determined that this year I will finish it.

We were actually really, really sad to hear about Steve Jobs’ passing. We (and Dave in particular) have been Apple fans for a long time.

Dinner time. Every time I saute garlic I think of the song Red Beans & Rice by Spearhead.  Ah, 1995. Brooke, can I get a holla?

After three years in our house, we finally had our fireplace finished over the summer. And the other night we had our very first fire in it! It was so cozy! I’m looking forward to lots more of these.

One thing I seriously HATE is waking up my sleeping babies to go pick up their sisters from school. My friend (online friends for now, real life friends one day), Annie, commented on this picture and said this, “My SIL once said she’d rather get punched in the face. I’d have to agree.” I also concur.

Friday night lights! Thanks for the tickets, Dad! It was a fun game, the girls didn’t get too bored, and BYU won, so it was a great game to attend!

Swinging on a Saturday morning with Squaw Peak in the background.

In the middle of changing Clara, I realized she looked like she belonged in that old SNL skit, Sprockets.  Now she just needs to learn the dance.

Trying to finish Gwen’s quilt on a lovely Sunday afternoon while watching Anne (with an E) Green Gables. I love to watch this every fall. Is it weird that I only watch some movies at certain times during the year?

Olive loves to take the toppings off of everyone’s yogurt each time we go to Yogurtland.

Grasshoppers in my tomatoes. They give me willies.

At the end of the day Dave and sat down to watch a little Modern Famliy. I think Phil is listening for which smoke alarm is chirping here.

Look at those two teeth!

Apparently, it was a riveting show of Little Einsteins.

Little Miss Potato Head.

I was on Pinterest, and Olive wanted in on the action. And by “in on the action” I mean, she just wanted to sit on my lap.

The birthday decor was up for much too long. I’m happy to report though, that as of Wednesday, everything came down. I’ve gotta make room for my Halloween decor anyway (hooray!).

Dave’s eyes were so blue today. I love them (and him).

This teething toy is one that can be frozen. Clara likes it but I think it gets too cold for her but instead of dropping it, she holds it and cries. Anyway, she was done gnawing on it and Gwen came in, picked it up, and said, “That’s cold…and spitty.”

My Dad hung out with Gwen today and when I came home I found this drawing of a duck smoking. I’m so puzzled. Someone’s got some ’splanin to do.

We FINALLY ate at Mountain West Burrito. It definitely lived up to the hype. I’m addicted. Anyone want to go with me?
